Golden Milk with Reishi & Chaga


Summer may be just around the corner, but that does not mean I stop drinking warm beverages. Cold or iced drinks in Chinese Medicine are a big no no. Cold damages the earth element: Spleen and Stomach (whose corresponding color is golden yellow) and can negatively impact digestion. The way you nourish yourself in spring and summer will impact how you thrive in fall and winter. The benefits of golden milk are so impressive that it’s a wonderful beverage to drink in any season. Adding medicinal mushrooms to your standard golden milk increases the anti-inflammatory power, and provides additional immune benefits. 

1 cup milk (whole, coconut, almond)
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground turmeric
1/2 teaspoon @rootandbones Chaga
1/2 tsp @rootandbones Reishi
1/8 tsp cardamom
Pinch of ground ginger
Fresh ground black pepper
1 tsp coconut oil or ghee
1 tsp honey
Bring milk to a simmer over medium-low heat. Whisk in cinnamon, turmeric, cardamom, ginger, nutmeg and pepper. Add coconut oil, reduce heat to low, and simmer 5–10 min. To a high speed blender, add honey, Reishi and Chaga and blend until smooth and frothy
